Our Club Philosophy .  .  .

At SMASC, we are a progressive and competitive club who's goal is Schutzhund and Schutzhund titles.  Our club works through teamwork and we expect our members to embrace that philosophy.  Every member is expected to learn thru observation and participation and to ask for help when they need it and to accept that help.

As a member of our club, it is important to support the club and your fellow club members on trial days, whether it is our club trial or a local trial.  We expect you to actively participate in club events and make guests feel welcome.  We also expect our members to support the other clubs in our region and areas.  This is an important part of keeping our sport alive and growing.

We train hard and expect our members to be dedicated and committed.  We expect our members to endeavor to attend all training sessions and be on time.  It also means that you support other club members by showing up for training even when you don’t or can’t train your own dog.  Other club members need you to serve as a group, distraction, spotter, etc.

We expect our members to train their dog(s) to the best their ability and the dog’s ability.  This means we don’t train or trial to “get by.”  When you walk on the trial field, you represent our club and our training – we expect you to look your best.  At SMASC, we take Schutzhund seriously.  Our club is demanding and not designed to cater to the casual hobbyist.  If you are disciplined and serious about training, this might be a club for you.  If this is not your commitment level at this time or you don’t have the time available, then this is not the club for you.

Guests are welcome at our club and are invited to visit the club two times before applying for membership.  Each visit that you work your dog is $10.00.  This includes an evaluation of your dog for Schutzhund.  We do ask that you schedule in advance and bring the attached waiver of liability  with you on your first visit.

Some things you will need to know for your first visit:

1.  Because safety is a priority, your dog will need to be contained in a airport approved (plastic) crate when not being trained. If you do not have a crate, the club can provide one during your visitation period.

2. Bring food and a ball (or a favorite toy). Hot dogs are easy to eat and inexpensive treats for training.

3. Make sure that you have a sturdy collar and leash. An inexpensive nylon buckle collar (not the kind with a plastic clips that slide into each other) and a sturdy nylon leash are perfect for your first visit.

There is a difference between interest and commitment.  When you're interested in something, you do it only when it's convenient.  When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.
